Malignant diseases are one of the leading public health problems in the Republic of Croatia. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, both in the world and in the Republic of Croatia. Most women diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50, but younger women can also get breast cancer. In Croatia, every tenth woman will get breast cancer.
October is the month of the fight against breast cancer, and every year on October 7, the Pink Ribbon Day is celebrated, when various actions and events try to emphasize the need for early detection of this disease.
This humanitarian project started in America 25 years ago, and was started by a humanitarian non-profit association for the fight against breast cancer named after its symbol – the pink ribbon. To date, more than 30 countries have joined this laudable project, carrying out actions through various humanitarian organizations and public health institutions to reach, introduce and warn as many people as possible about the importance of early detection of breast cancer to increase cures.
The project aims to raise public awareness of the importance of regular screening, which includes self-examination, mammography and ultrasound examination of the breast, because when diagnosed at an early stage and with proper treatment, more than 90% of breast cancer cases can be cured.
So, dear women, take care of your health, react in time and go for a preventive examination!
